Family Compass needed to launch a unique kind of foster care agency. They faced the challenge of standing out in a crowded non-profit landscape, and show the public how they are not another foster care agency, but a unique solution to the problems that industry has. They needed to use the internet to both raise money and meet the needs of more foster families. They needed a brand identity that felt warm yet professional, a modern website, and high-impact storytelling assets to drive future donations and community engagement… all built from scratch.
We began by designing the Family Compass visual identity, creating a logo that symbolizes guidance and warmth, with an approachable color palette that felt playful and life-giving. Simultaneously, we produced 20 videos tailored for multiple placements across the digital world, featuring real testimonials from foster parents and clinical experts to build immediate trust (essential). We then designed a website using all those assets, creating a strategic foundation for their marketing. This included a clear breakdown of how specific donation amounts change a family’s life, giving the organization the tools it needs to run effective, high-impact donation campaigns going forward.
Family Compass now has a strong marketing foundation and a standout digital presence that reflects its vital mission. This case study highlights how a non-profit can move to the front of the Pack by investing in a cohesive brand story and professional digital assets, right from the start. With their new visual identity and a library of 20 storytelling videos, they further activated their network of 40 families and 16 existing nonprofits. They’re now attracting more families who need trauma-informed training, crisis intervention, and ultimately the assurance that they never have to walk alone. The Family Compass Case Study below shows more detail about how we did it.

We loved working with the Family Compass team from the get-go. They came to us with a real passion for families in the foster care system. They had a big vision to make their lives easier. The FC and W&K partnership was amazing because it was collaborative, creative, and most importantly, it was about something much bigger than digital marketing.

To establish a strong foundation for Family Compass, we crafted a visual identity and messaging strategy centered on trust, friendliness, fun, and the concept of guidance. Knowing the logo would need to be legible at smaller scales (like social media profiles on a phone) we kept the simple, but impactful. Warm, playful, approachable. It needed to be inviting, not clinical. This aesthetic carries into the messaging, which utilizes “Impact Clarity” to educate the public on the specific, life-changing results of their contributions. By combining it all, we created a brand voice that’s not only professional and passionate, but effective at turning curious visitors into committed supporters.

To make their new website and branding really sing, the Family Compass team needed killer video content. This wasn’t a video or 2 for use on one web page or a couple social media posts. It was a whole library of content created strategically for use across the internet: website, social media, ad campaigns, and emails. When we create video content, we do it a bit different. In this part of the Family Compass case study, we’ll show you how we did it.
Family Compass needed a marketing foundation and online identity. In the modern age, a vibrant website is essential for nonprofits who want to kick their donor strategy into another gear. So, we went to work capturing the awesome mission of Family Compass in digital form, and turning it into a brand new website that stands above the rest. In this part of the Family Compass case study, we’ll give you a preview of what we built.
All aspects of a nonprofit marketing strategy must work together in unison for effective fundraising. To take the Family Compass donor strategy from 0 to 100, Wolf & Key took a holistic approach. Great branding isn’t just a nice logo…its your site, your content on social media, and the way you interact with donors/potential supporters even in the real world. A nonprofit needs to know itself, communicate clearly, and show value and impact consistently. Wolf & Key helped Family Compass act on what they know: that trust is currency for nonprofits…maybe the most important one. By creating a cohesive brand and building a strong ongoing strategy (can’t quite give away that part here), we set Family Compass up for success.
Your website is the foundation of your digital fundraising efforts. It translates to an increase in donations when you use it to tell your story effectively and communicate with your donor base consistently. When people visit your website, they should have no questions. Your organization’s mission and big dreams for the future should be front and center. It should be inspiring and well-designed. Giving should be easy, and there should be no question about how big an impact donor dollars have on your cause.
The internet has the power to do what most nonprofits are struggling to do right now: reach a wider audience and expand their donor base. Most nonprofits rely on a small number of large donors for all their funding. With a strong digital marketing strategy, nonprofits can reach the wider public and create a more stable and sustainable donor base. The fastest way to start is to get on social media and start connecting with people organically.
Proving the legitimacy of your organization requires showing donors where their support goes. Real impact stories should be on your website, and across your digital marketing channels. Your site should be the foundation, where you draw in potential donors and make it simple and compelling to give to your cause.
To turn awareness into dollars, a nonprofit website (and internet presence as a whole) needs to tell the story of impact. Where does the money go? What change does it create in the world? Who are the real people impacted by the giving? It’s no longer good enough ask for money and promise it will be used for good. Donors demand trust and transparency, and the only way for nonprofits to do it at scale is through their website and digital marketing presence.
Nonprofits should use social media the way it was intended: for connection. Social media is the perfect place to connect with people, share stories of impact, and give the organization a face to the name. Be sure to include CTAs and give users easy ways to sign up for your event or give. Share what will happen at your event, talk about why your title sponsors are perfect partners, and give people incentive to show up and get involved.
Email and social media are the perfect tools to stay in touch with donors and nurture them toward long-term support. To do so will take time and authenticity. Continue to tell your organization’s sstory effectively and boldly. Put faces to the name, don’t just promote your logo. You’ll need a strategic approach to email and social in order for it to work well. Consistent (but not annoying) emails that show the value donors bring. Thank them for their support, don’t just constantly ask for more. Wolf & Key helped Family Compass set up a marketing foundation and ongoing strategy primed for increasing donorship in 2026.
A nonprofit should measure ROI on their digital marketing with a few key metrics: New users reached (measure market penetration into your city/state), new clicks to the website, and new donors. It won’t happen all at once, so build a plan and stay consistent. Most nonprofits don’t have the patience to see it through, but you’ll get ahead if you stick to the plan over time. Wolf & Key has experience with this already; we’ll help you make it happen.
